We all know it’s inevitable….your on a diet and somehow a deliciously fattening dinner out for a friends birthday or with a loved one is thrown into
the mix. Before you cry, “I can’t eat out… I’m on a diet!!” You know like Cathy the cartoon character? No?… Maybe that’s just me & what pops into my head when I picture a frantic and scared dieter hesitant to enter a restaurant- unsure of whether they sustain enough will power to avoid tempting meals. Eating out doesn’t have to be cause for panic people!!! Sure, you hear about oversize restaurant portions (Remember yesterdays post?) & the plethora of fattening menu choices available all the time at your convenience, but that doesn’t mean dining out will doom your dieting efforts.
I feel like when people talk about eating out in regards to dieting or watching what your eating there is always this negative undertone. I really wish this wasn’t so because it’s important while dieting or eating healthier to be able to get out and mix up your appetite. It’s very hard to stay disciplined when eating the same fish and veggies for dinner every night. Your taste buds need it..they crave it! Unless you are super duper disciplined I promise you will crack at the site of your favorite dish at a restaurant and we all know it’s never good from that point on..so how to avoid that you ask? Well for starters, DO eat out and mix it up a bit but just be sure and do so with a clear head, non-empty stomach, and follow these tips when ordering. In the preparation of your meal, ask your server for no extra butter in the
preparation of your entree and always choose broiled or grilled meat, such as grilled chicken breast with some brown rice and asparagus (like the picture to the left), rather than fatty deep fried and breaded items. If your entree might be covered or doused in a rich or thick cream base sauce- be sure and ask for that on the side as well!

Fitness Tips Incorporating Stability Balls
Remember how last weeks posts were all about fitness with resistance bands? Well this week it’s Fitness with a stability ball! Just like resistance bands, stability balls allow you to get a full body workout in the comfort of your own home and cheap to purchase as well! You can find a range of stability balls at your local sporting goods store or Target (gotta LOVE Target!
) Today I want share with you two great exercises you can use with a stability ball for a quick and easy workout at home!
Stability Ball Front Squat:
First, place a stability ball against a wall and lean your chest against it. Step back about 2 feet so you’re at an angle, and rise up onto the balls of your feet (not quite all the way on your tip toes but almost getting there.) Leaning against the ball with your hands at your sides, lower into a squat, keeping heels up and back straight, until the stability ball is at chin level. Hold for 3 seconds, then slowly stand back up, squeezing glutes tight and staying on your toes. Lower and repeat 8x/set. Repeat with 3 sets or depending on your strength level. This workout when done properly is going to target your legs and butt- Yes, your welcome ladies.
Core Roll:
Now, I know this may seem a little awkward but trust me this exercise is a killer for the core and just like the front ball squat- you will be thanking me tomorrow when your abs are sorer than hell from this exercise…in a good way of course
First, Position yourself face down on ball, with your chest centered in the middle, and hug the stability ball. Step feet wide for stability. Keeping feet on floor, roll several inches
to the right-try not to roll so far that you can’t bring yourself back up(see picture to right.) Now, using your obliques- squeeze and fire those muscles to help roll back to your starting position. Hold for 3 seconds at the top. Next, roll to the left and do the same- that’s 1 set. Try doing somewhere between 8-10 sets. It’s okay if you can’t do 8 in a row- keep it at it daily and gradually you will see an increase in your endurance with this exercise and an added bonus of some washboard abs- sounds like a deal to me!
